Jul 19th, 20104 Comments

I love guys that get to blow crap up! So I was reading a business blog the other day, “Lessons Entrepreneurs Should Learn From The Navy Seals.” The author based the article on the book  Leadership Lessons of the Navy Seals. Being a HUGE Navy Seals fan, needless to say this caught my attention! If I can learn to lead from guys that can inspire others to lay down their lives for those on their team, I want some of that! You better know what the “Z” looks like!

I was talking with  a friend yesterday (Dino Senesi). We were talking church planting strategy for the Comb Network. He made a statement that is so simple and profound. He said ‘We must move forward with Z-A thinking.” What he meant was, we need to understand fully the type of leaders we want to produce, down to the last detail. Then and only then will we understand what we need to put in place in order for that (more…)

Guest Post: From Leah Davis (My youngest daughter)

Several months ago when I was at Clemson I heard a pastor say, “if your life is boring and you’re not excited about living every single day I question whether or not you’re actually a Christian.” I know my God has a will for my life that looks something like this:

  • I will make her smile with my glory every morning when I bring the sun over the horizon (more…)

Perception is King!

Jul 13th, 20102 Comments

Perception is KING! I can’t tell you how many times I have spoken and preached this. It’s one of those “small foxes” that can not be overlooked. We need to understand the things we say and do may not match or even  slightly resemble our intention. Intention is not perception. What others hear and  experience will be “perceived” in a real and impactful way. So we must always ask this question: “How will this be perceived?” (more…)

Friday Random Q’s

Jul 9th, 20102 Comments

I am off on Friday’s (supposedly), and it seems as the week winds down there are always Q’s that come up that are well… Random, the kind I would love to sit around with a group of leaders and just throw out and see what “throws up.” Today is no different. So, some random Q’s comment if you like ( I likeeee!)….

  • Why don’t I like to watch basketball? And who is LeBron James? (more…)

5-Final signs your church might SUCK!

Jul 8th, 20102 Comments

1. You hate to delegate.

No one should fly alone! And you will crash and burn if you don’t pull a team around you. Ministry and church work is a battlefield wrought with difficulties and a strong adversary. If you choose not to share the load, and allow others to carry out their “specialty” it will be to your own demise!  Do what ONLY YOU… (more…)

5-More signs your church might Suck!

1. People don’t talk about your company.

Really! Don’t you know the best way to impact others and your community is through word of mouth! Go hang out at the nearest restaurant to your church after you Sunday services and see if anybody is talking about it. Get a friend from out of town to go to some near by retail businesses on a Saturday and ask, “I’m new in town, know… (more…)

5-Signs your church might SUCK!

Jul 6th, 20108 Comments

I was reading a business blog the other day, called “15-signs your business sucks!” As I read it, it became apparent these signs  apply to the church. I have no intention of equalizing the church with any type of business. But rather passionate about finding another missing piece to help my fellow gladiators who are fighting for the Kingdom and serious about making an eternal impact. So it is in that spirit I ask you this question, does your church have any of these (5) signs… (more…)

8-Ways to spot a Manipulating leader!

Jul 2nd, 20103 Comments

“The beginning of love is to let those we love be perfectly themselves, and not to twist them to fit our own image. Otherwise we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them.” Thomas Merton

Mule I see one of the greatest temptations of leadership is…manipulation. Sometimes we don’t fully understand the meaning of this word. We think we would never “manipulate” anyone. Rather, we call it our “gift of persuasion”, strong leadership, ability to cast the vision or good pastoring. I think we need to understand that the Bible equates manipulation with WITCHCRAFT! Holy crap! That is tough. We never want to be guilty of using witchcraft on those we lead… (more…)
