I took this picture this morning. It’s new billboard near down town. It’s huge right next to the road, and when you drive by it looks like Jesus is looking down, talking right to you.
Depart!
Really? Whoever put this up, really must not care if all the lost people in our town thinks “Jesus is a Jerk.” Come on, can someone really think portraying Jesus as a mean dude, telling you to “Depart” is gonna make want to come to Him?
I am still amazed at how some Christians feel this is impact-full for the Kingdom! What do you think. Good message?
I don’t know if you understand the power of praying scripture, but I hope you do. There is great power in praying what God has said, even if it was for someone else, God may use it for you. The most blessed of sons;
May I be favored by my brothers,
And dip my foot in oil.
25 My sandals shall be iron and bronze;
As my days, so shall my strength be.
26 “There is no one like my God,
Who rides the heavens to help me,
And in His excellency on the clouds.
27 The eternal God is my refuge,
And underneath me are His everlasting arms;
He will thrust out the enemy from before me,
And will say, ‘Destroy!’

His heavens shall also drop dew on me.

This is not bad hermeneutics, this is allowing the Word of God to go down deep and increase our faith in the goodness and faithfulness of our God. Pray this prayer, ask God to show Himself strong today on your behalf. If like me, some days you need these words to destroy the negative ones that are flooding in!

I know that sounds a little harsh, but Jesus’ main contention with the Pharisee’s were there insistance of taking a command of God, and then telling everyone “how” to do it. Listen. Your morality is NOT a demonstration of the power of God. I have not met a person that wanted to follow Christ because they met someone and want to model their morality. Honestly, that is mostly a turn off to the Gospel. Our morality is not attractive, nor was ever meant to be.
