3 P’s Every Leader Must Remember
To grow as a leader and as a church there are three things that must be in a place that can be evaluated and corrected on a regular basis.
Priorities.
Some would call these our core values. These are the things that make us tick. That tell us who we are. These are the things that all the other “stuff” flow from. The priorities are the filter for every program, every dollar, and every effort. Without knowing our priorities and without evaluating them regularly and deciding if what we’re doing goes along with them, we’re running a a race without a course.
How? You’ve Gotta Know!
The Bible tells us what, not how. Now, before you dismiss that and call me crazy think, imagine this…
Ephesians tells all husbands to love their wife as Christ loves the church. Ephesians, though, doesn’t tell you to love your wife the same way I love mine. In fact, the Bible doesn’t tell me to love my wife the same way for my entire life. I don’t know about you, but if I loved my wife today and showed her that I love her the same way I did 20 years ago, she’d be done with me. She’s changed, I’ve changed, culture’s changed, and my way of loving her has changed.
Know Culture. Grow the Church.
I talk with a lot of pastors and leaders. Pastors and leaders from different places and different sized places.
Specifically, as I talk to pastors and leaders in rural places, in small towns, across the country, I hear desperation in their voices about their community. You see, I’ve come to realize that pastor and leaders are wired for their community and context. The best leaders, are leading where they are because of a great call from God… because they’ve heard God tell them to lead where they are.
3 Things That Kill A Leader’s Leadership
Defensive
If you’re defensive as a leader, it means you aren’t leading with confidence and the conviction you need. I’ve always said that if we’re defensive as leaders, it’s our vision and not God’s. Only the person that created the vision has to defend it. If God created it and gave it to us, we don’t have to defend it, only steward it.
If you find yourself wanting to throw down when someone doubts something or doesn’t like something you do, it may be that you are acting in your own way, not in God’s vision.
3 Signs that God is Moving in Your Church
There’s no way to manufacture a move of God. Yes, we follow God’s heart and the Spirit’s leading to plan, pray and prepare in faith that God will move though all we do, but only He can make the move.
At times, we may be tempted to “hype” things up to give the appearance that God is moving, (nothing wrong with passion and excitement) but how do we know it’s God? We see these 3 things:
