That’s the way we say it in the south anyway. The interpretation of that is simple. “I thought about doing something that would help or encourage you but I didn’t. So…I’m telling you that I at leastthought about you.” That’s not what a good friend does. When someone says that, they are trying to make themselves feel better about missing an opportunity.
Don’t be a ‘was gonna’ friend. Proverbs talks a lot about what it is to be a real friend. Proverbs says that friends stick closer than a brother, it says that real friends hold their friends up and confront them when they’re wrong, it even says not to forsake your friends.
It doesn’t say anything about thinking about doing something good for a friend.
Jesus said that a good friend even lays down his life for friends. Now, I’m not saying you will have to do that, but you’ll certainly have to sacrifice on occasion.
Don’t be a was gonna friend. Don’t be a friend that is unwilling to ‘die’ for their friend on occasion. Real friends. Godly friends. Don’t THINK about doing something for their friend, they DO IT.
