4-Lessons on Church Style…From an Idiot
“When ever you see the following names in connection with a church RUN!”
This was a line in an unsolicited email from someone I had never heard of. Â It was all about how great he was and how “ungodly” some others were.Â
He goes on to tell of some church services he led for a friend of his, and how wonderful it was…
1- “The music was tremendous with no contemporary junk in sight. Â I love the old paths of the old-time religion especially her music.” Â
Then how horrible other churches and leaders are…
2- “This new let your hair down method is leading young men down a primrose lane to unadulterated heresy. Â These men are a mockery to the cause of Christ. Â JUST GIVE ME AND MINE THE OLD TIME RELIGION!”
Then his church style summary statement of how he believes  all other pastors and churches should be…
3- “Give me Holy Ghost power for Holy Ghost conviction of sinners and you can keep your religious rock n roll mixed with a little Merle Haggard. GOTTA LOVE THE OLD TIME RELIGION!”
And just in case those reading his doctrinal treatise of proper and modern ecclesiology don’t know what he’s talking about, he gives the names of the men and their organizations to avoid…

One of these men… one I know personally, a couple I know “of” and couple I know nothing of. That’s not the point. I looked them up, yes some are “different” and one had a blog post I completely disagreed with, but…all love Jesus, and want others to come to know Him.Â
This man is an “idiot.” Idiot~ “Stupid.” Being clueless of the incredible Kingdom damage such communication and thinking can be!
Idiot? Agree, or disagree?Â

We are all competing with other churches, but are all trying to do the same thing. Lead others to Christ. I do agree, times are changing so the church should to a point to get new followers in there. Just like using the King james version in tracks to witness, why not use NIV now? Shakespear or 9o’s day langauge? Hmm?
When people start talking to me about how bad Pastor _______ is I always try to steer the conversation back to actual teachings and away from the person. More often than not, they are just repeating what someone else said and don’t actually know what the guy teaches.

Straight on! I love the way you handle that, never engage in slandering one of God’s anointed.

These pathetic so called pastors would rather spend time attacking a pastor for personal reasons than to see the difference, pray & do what thus sayeth the Lord God. God Is NOT The Author Of Confusion. So when U go to the church building & ALL the pastor does is rant & rave negatively about a pastor with a thriving minister, you need leave there & never return because God does not reside in mess & foolishness.
My guess is that every teacher (writer) has made at least one comment from the pulpit (blog post) that they regret saying (writing). In my mind the standard is not one of style or mistake-free preaching. I judge the preacher by the fruit in the lives of his congregants. Are the people growing in their love of God and their neighbors? Are the people growing in their desire to make disciples? Does the local church body have the reputation of grace and healing? Or, does it have the reputation of being harsh and judgmental?
Those to whom Jesus offered grace will stand in judgment of those who refuse to offer the same. Jesus himself said, “may will say to me in that day . . .”
