Jesus Did some Crazy Crap! Are You?

They thought Jesus was out of his mind.

~Mk 3.21

My wife and I heard the old song (don’t know the artist) but the chorus was, “We never would have survived this if we didn’t…

Go a little crazy!

Everything is spinning off the tracks around us.  It seems nothing stays the same, I know it never has, but it doesn’t stay the same now, at a much greater speed than ever. It can take your breath away.

So we must ask ourselves, “How do we effect people that are constantly changing, in an ever changing culture.” The answer…

Do whatever it takes. Do whatever it takes!

  • A good effort won’t’ do

  • A great plan won’t do

  • Continue as always won’t do

NO! I believe we gotta start thinking so radically about our calling, that as we walk in it, some people will think we’re crazy…. We darn well better be, if we’re gonna be like Jesus.

But remember, it wasn’t the people Jesus was trying to reach that thought He was crazy, it was those around Him already. The “insiders” thought He was doing some crazy crap! They thought He was so crazy that they should “lay hold of him.”

When was last time we did something so crazy for the Kingdom, that those around us, the insiders wanted to “take hold of us.” I don’ know about you….

I’m ready to go do some crazy crap like Jesus.

What kind of crazy crap you may ask? I don’t know. But I do know this…We can’t keep doing what we did 5-Years ago, or a year ago. Everything is in a constant state of change and flux. And if we don’t move with it, we lose our ability to effect it!

What kinda crazy crap are you ready or willing to do for Jesus and the Kingdom?

P.S. If you are offended by me using the word “Crap” next to Jesus…You aren’t ready for anything radical! Just saying.

Great words Pastor Artie! I’m fired up and it’s early! Word of the day = Radical!

  2. Artie Davis says:

Thanks Quintin! I’m fired up too. Gotta be like my friend “Big Blue” and “Stay Ready.”

I am very ready for radical and amazing. But I still don’t think that a slang word for defecation or poop can be associated with Christ. He is the Son of God, to be shown ultimate respect and reverence. Holy of Holy. Yes, He is also my Buddy, Friend, Dad. He thought out the box but and it was Radical for the time He was on earth, but I really think that another word can be used. I am forever grateful for the “crazy” things that Jesus did – He gave us salvation on a cross and that gives us even more reason to be radical and energised to live and work for Him

I’m almost finished reading Beautiful Outlaw by John Eldredge and it deals about this very thing. I guess your word is the exclamation point on the message.

Artie I appreciate your desire in this post encourage your readers to do radical things. Jesus was often perceived as being unusual and he often broke with tradition which made him seem radical to those who valued and protected the tradition he broke.

Jesus was radical but Jesus wasn’t radical because he was trying to be radical. Jesus’ teaching and actions came from a commitment to holiness and pleasing the Father.

As I read your post I got the impression that your focus is more on finding a way to be radical just because Jesus was perceived as radical. I think that need to be careful that “being radical” is not our motivation. A better motivation would be an undying commitment to teaching Truth and exemplifying it in our lives through holiness.

Truth is radical and when it is coupled with an uncompromising commitment to a holy life it will always call attention to itself because it will break with tradition and cultural norms.

Concerning the word “crap”. I get where you’re going with that but I think you set up a false argument when you wrote, “If you are offended by me using the word “Crap” next to Jesus…You aren’t ready for anything radical! Just saying.”

Don’t you think there might be people who attach a slightly different meaning to the word than you? You shouldn’t assume that everyone has the exact same standard when it comes to language as you do.

Honestly the New Testament does use words like “crap”, (Check out Phi 3:8). Those words are used in reference to the the works of man. I can’t think of a place in Scripture where the works of Jesus are described using a word like “crap”, “dung”, “excrement”, “shit” or any similar words.

I understand that maybe you attach a different meaning to the word than I do, so I’m really not offended but I don’t think you should write off others who might be offended by how you used the word. Do you not believe that God could also them in a radical way too?

Thanks for your awesome blog! Blessings on your next radical endeavor for Jesus!

I understand the spirit of your blog post. And I feel the urgency also. And some of your commentators need to lighten up. IMHO

Yeah! Kurt, this is the deal, no matter how far you run or where you try and hide, the “religious” we will have with us always :)
