Diversity is hot! Even though it’s like an “elephant” in the pew” because we aren’t very good at it. We know in our hearts that’s the way church should be, but most churches stare at their failure across their own congregation weekly, and so we shift to another topic.
Diversity is God’s way of painting a masterpiece of all He has created in His image. He desires to display His work on the canvas called His church. We need to take seriously the challenge Scott puts forth, and do whatever it takes to make it a reality.
But will the church move with this challenge? Is this a movement that will move, or will the church be immoveable? I pray it will become not just a passing fad, but a true God fueled movement.
Thanks Scott. You have done a great job my friend, keep championing the cause!

I’d like to read this book. We are in an increasingly diverse community and our church is beginning to reflect that diversity, but we can always learn . . . .
Diversity is one of those words that is often broad stroked into a limited definition of ethnicity. I have learned over the past 2 or 3 years that diversity reaches across ethnicity, differing generations, differing economic status and even intelligence and grace giving. I would love to read this book and see what all Scott has to say. I have very much enjoyed his blog over the past year (since I found it and The Sticks blog).

You are right David. The definition of the the Ethnic includes, race, soci-economic status, hobbies & geographical location. So it’s a race thing, but sooo much more.
Good input bro. Thanks man.

A good pastor friend of mine has begun to read this book. He also has started blogging about the content of Church Diversity. I am excited and eager to open Church Diversity. Thanks @ScottWilliams

Who is your friend? Would like to read his/her stuff.
I’m glad to see that there are leaders rising up amongst us who are willing to have the hard conversations necessary to move the American church forward. The church has to be willing to cross this barrier and get a little grimy. If we don’t we ought to be ashamed of ourselves. We are “experts” on cross-cultural ministry, but we refuse to apply our expertise when it comes to fellow Americans. Let’s go CHURCH…let’s get with it!
Been following this book since he first announced he was writing it! looking forward to reading it soon! Doing church halfway between Selma, AL, and Montgomery, AL, this is an issue CONSTANTLY on our minds. I’m talking a community that is still almost 100% segregated and most people around here dont know even where to begin on coming together… even as the church. BUT… We’re seeing God bring and place leaders in churches here from all kinds of backgrounds who have a desire to see change and unity. It’s very encouraging!
I am an African-American woman who is attending a predominately white church and I’m certain that we will be addressing this issue soon as we seek to bring in more young people in a contemporary service. I need this book for research and to provide sound voice and judgment in the room. Blessings, Natasha
Sounds like something I definitely need to read considering my context in a multi-ethnic small town in Florida. Definitely on my “most-wanted” list…..
Yes you do. Pray hard bro

Ha!
Saw Scott at Exponential…He is a great leader!
I think many in the pews see this and realize it’s a problem. They (we) just don’t know where to start to make the change.
Love that Scott is tackling the issue head-on. Looking forward to reading it!

Sweeeet Natasha, love the word my sis!
Didn’t make the first ten, but I will RT anyway 😉
There is a BIG difference between welcoming people of different races and embracing and empowering them. That is what is lacking in many churches.
Amen! I refer to it as the difference between, Tolerate & Celebrate. Thanks Tom!
It’s amazing all the resources that are available for multi ethnic church. As a new church plant, it’s amazing!!!!

Diversity is a must in churches. A lot of folks will be surprised when they get to heaven.
