How can I KNOW what I’m supposed to do next?

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is…~ Rom 12.2 (NIV)

The world isn’t all bad, part of the “world” are others around you. Other leaders organizations, church leaders, bloggers, authors and the latest gurus. Most of these are great. They are following God, movers and shakers, setting the world on fire.

Unfortunately, when we hear their success or a new exciting way of doing something and the question goes through our mind,  “is that what I’ve been looking for?” It’s really working great for them. So it becomes easy to”conform” to their new idea…well, because it seems like a successful “quick” fix.

That may be the opposite of what God really wants you to do. Just because God gave it to them, doesn’t mean it’s for you. It’s their pattern and vision from God, you have to get your own, no short cuts. That’s what it means not to conform, or follow the pattern of someone else, you have to wholeheartedly seek God for His will for you.

Go back to the vision. Go back to your passion. Revisit the fire that has driven you to where you are now. From that place pray, fast, meditate, be quiet before God and let Him make your mind new! Let Him transform you into where He wants you to be or go next. Yes, that is real HARD work, not a quick read and pray. But spiritual labor.

In that place, the humble broken, open place before God you will “prove God’s will for you.” That’s your next step.

What say you?

I say tell us more! This is a loud world full of busy-ness, techno-stressers, and 24-hour-a-day connectedness. Seriously, how did we pick people up at the airport in 1983 without texting and cell phone lots?

If we were face-to-face, I’d ask you this:

“Artie, how do I pray and fast and meditate? That sounds like what monks do. I know what God created me to do, but I want Him to show me that next step. Can you teach me how to pray and fast and meditate? It sounds like what I need, but I don’t know how to actually do it?”

Thanks for this post. One thing my husband and I have begun trying to do is to get away from the world of technology on the weekend. We unplug to charge up with God. Thus, the computer will be turned off this afternoon and not turned on until late Sunday evening or early Monday morning.

Great Plan April! I love it. Everyone may not be able to follow that plan, but we all need a plan to hear, pray and meditate with God.

      Thanks for sharing!

“Go back to the vision.” THAT’S so key. I’m adopting a life verse from John 15 where Jesus is the Vine and I’m nothing (unless connected to the Vine). Beware the counterfeit vines.

    Great post!
