Having witnessed some organizations, groups, visions & even churches implode. Itâs a sad thing to watch, and I have noticed that once the process begins, itâs very difficult to stop the âslide.â The thing Iâve noticed is that a lack of vision, passion and direction actually predicate this destructive sequence⦠(thatâs another blog), so if you are a part of any type organization and you see any of these warning signs, you better act quickly!!!
1. Discontentment â As Christ followers we are told that âgodliness with contentment is great gain.â However, when the âmoodâ and spirit of an organization begins to smell like discontent, there is a real problem. People begin to look inside at problems and unmet expectations, and how their ideas arenât being considered. This is the beginning of the end!
2. Disillusionment – This is a feeling of being âmisleadâ or âbetrayed.â In other words I have been sold a bill of goods I didnât order! People feel like that in an organization that has changed lanes too fast, changed the vision, or lacks a vision. Some goals or ideals were communicated at one time, but were not thought through properly and consequently were unfulfilled.
3. Disengagement â When people are discontent and disillusioned, they disengage! They stop coming, participating, volunteering, giving and inviting others to join the cause. This literally means the very foundation that is needed to hold all things together has begun to rot!
4. Destruction – âAnd it all comes tumbling down.â When the very life of the organization, any organization is people, and that life is⦠Discontent, Disillusioned and disengaged⦠death and destruction has come! You never want to be at this point, so DONâT BE! Do what it takes to keep vision, passion and direction clear and challenging!
There is always hope! Even if you find yourself apart of, or driving something that seems to be headed for destruction, pull over pray, and ask God how to get everything back on track! You will not a lot of help, insight, wisdom, thick skin and determination but⦠I think you are up to the challenge!
