Change! Nobody really likes it. Some see the need for it so they embrace it and run with it, but change always brings more work, challenges and many times confrontations. But, in the arena of leadership, there are few traits more valuable than being able to size up a situation and for the good of the mission, “turn on dime” and run in a different direction.

When you discover an activity is not productive, STOP IT! This is a hard call. Leaders don’t like to “be disliked” by their followers. That’s why you hear people chant the mantra, “leadership is influence”, because it’s true. If you don’t have influence you wont be able to effectively implement a change, no matter how much it’s warranted. So don’t attempt a change where you don’t have the influence to see it through.

So… Leaders must be planners, and pivoters. We pray, listen to God’s voice and plan accordingly, but with the understanding, that at any moment, we may need to change. There will be small changes and LARGE changes, some will seem almost to difficult too do, but you must! Don’t continue to lead others down a path you know is not the best, simply because you fear confrontation or rejection. That is a trap that has deadly consequences. “The fear of man is a snare.” It will snatch you up, turn you up, and hold you hostage. Don’t fear man, fear God, and move!

Plan your Mission, but Prepare to Pivot!
