Perception is King!

Perception is KING! I can’t tell you how many times I have spoken and preached this. It’s one of those "small foxes" that can not be overlooked. We need to understand the things we say and do may not match or even  slightly resemble our intention. Intention is not perception. What others hear and  experience will be "perceived" in a real and impactful way. So we must always ask this question: "How will this be perceived?"

If we focus on intention and not consider perception, we will miss the mark! Those who are married, have you ever tried to do or say something that you thought was great. Only to learn your mate "took it wrong." I’m sure you know that feeling. At first it can make us angry, defensive and hurt. However, we must take some responsibility for perception.

This has huge implications for the church! As a church leader you must consider your decisions, actions and words carefully. Especially those of us who are "type A", who seem to fly by the seat of our pants, and make quick decisions because we are the "gitter done" dudes. It certainly takes more time, and more prayer to consider doing things in a way that will not only accomplish the objective, but also make sure that what we intend to communicate is actually being perceived correctly! The extra effort will return exponential gain.

    Hi Artie,

Loved this post! Perception is not only king, it's reality. And it's super important to remember that everyone's reality is different as they take our intentions and pull those through their filters of experience and bias and so on.

Thanks again for the helpful insight!

    Best wishes,
    Tara
