Leadership Lesson-10. Spend $ on your STAFF!

One thing I have learned in leading teams in the commercial & spiritual arenas, it is vital too spend money on your staff! Especially if you desire to grow, inspire and instill vision in those you lead. Those you lead need multiple steams of training & input. I have seen a tremendous return on funds budgeted for: Training, conferences, workshops & vision trips!

Those you lead need exposure to new ways of thinking and new ideas. This expands their creativity and passion. Increases their awareness to new trends, and provides great networking opportunities.

So when budgeting funds, don’t forget one of the greatest investments, with the greatest potential for return is the growth of your team!

Also, from their (staff) perspective, they see the one who is leading them is willing to invest in them. Nothing worse than to feel unappreciated or to have your work be overlooked. When a leader is willing to make their staff a priority (however that might be), the staff responds and wants to learn and be open to ideas and vision because they feel loved and appreciated! Who wouldn't want to follow a leader who lets them know that they are vital to the mission.

Well said Lee! Praying for you bro!

People are hungry for leadership and someone who will "invest" in them. For a Christ-following leader to do this on the multi-levels (financially, mentally, emotionally, spiritually), it is a testimony of a leader who is willing to serve.

    Well said!

In the Navy we said: "Train like you'll fight so you can fight like you train."

If you don't train, you lose.

CHURCHES need to understand this and not just say: "Oh…the Spirit will guide us."

This is so relevant, we take a ministry every 3 months on what we call a strategic road trip or srt.
For instance this quarter we are taking our guest services directors and capitans to 2 other church that I have seen get guest services right.
You can tell them and tell them but something clicks when they see it.

Awesome bro! You guys are really on the investment road! I love it and applaud your commitment to your team! May you see, not 30 or 60 but a 100 fold return!

I think that this happens less in churches that we want to believe especially during a recession.
However, if teams aren't being led fully, then the results will become lackluster.

It is sort of a Catch-22.

What are some ways that you have spent money on your teams, that have had the greatest return?

Hey Blane! I think the greatest returns have been when I have sent staff to other churches and they have had the opportunity to hear another leaders vision that is similar to ours. They understand it's not just an isolated passion, but part of a movement, that has proven to create energy and vision.
