Well… this week begins my second week of a six month long "semi-sabbatical." I guess you are scratching your head over that one. Well, a couple of months back I began to show warning signs of "burn out." I have been there before (about 10-12 years ago) and vowed to never again venture to the "dark side."
So after much prayer, meetings and seeking God this plan of a semi-sabbatical was born. What this actually means is that for the next (6) months all I am responsible for is the 2 P's (Prayer & Preaching).
I have assigned a senior staff team to handle all of the daily issues and questions. And our Senior Leadership Team guys are running block and tackle for me.
I tell you one thing-I pity guys who have to do what we do and don't have an INCREDIBLE staff, leaders, friends and of course a great family to support them and help pull it off.
So now, my days are mostly spent quietly listening, praying, studying, meditating and spending time catching up with family and friends. I tell you, I'm digging it so far. 🙂
I will try to keep you in on what God is saying to me and how He is saying it!
it’s good to hear other people talk about overcoming those times of burnout – I think it’s something not a lot of ministers talk about how to overcome those times & even better, head it off before it happens.
You deserve the rest! I’m so proud of you!
Enjoy the rest. it is good to unplug every now and then and charge up!
